New job - asking for compressed hours

I’ve been offered a new job last week, I currently work 4 days and would prefer to do that so I was wanting to ask for compressed hours.

I haven’t got a contact or anything yet so actually not 100% sure of the weekly hours.

Is now the right time to do this or shall I wait till I have passed my probation? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!

Is it a deal breaker? If so I'd ask now. If not then you'd have to submit a flexible working request in the future which may or may not be granted.

I would ask “does anyone work compressed hours in this kind of job”. You might get the answer “yes, do you want to?” or “never heard of it” or “against policy”. If the answer is 2 or 3, you might need to wait until after probation to ask for a change of hours.

Unless you can’t take the job without this arrangement being in place I wouldn’t personally request it before you’ve proved yourself which realistically may be once you’ve passed probation.
