Old work iPad

I’ve been clearing out my garage and found an old work bag. In it was an apple iPad 8th generation - so not ancient! I left the job in early 2022 and it’s sat in the bag since. I intended to return it at the time, but the bag got further and further into the garage, then completely forgotten, until today. Should I call them and ask how they want me to return it, or return it anonymously? It wasn’t intentional, I was super emotional the day I left. Also I can’t and haven’t used it as it’s remotely managed and I’ve long since lost the log in details. (It’s from a large local authority, so probably long forgotten) I even considered just binning it, but can’t bring myself to do it. They’ve never contacted me about it. What should I do?

I would call them and admit it tbh they may well tell you to just keep it and then your conscience will be clear

Anonymous would be completely pointless as it would have been assigned to you by the asset number.
Just call them and tell them. It was an honest mistake, nothing will come from it. They’ll probably want it back to ensure all the data is wiped from it.
There’s nothing you can do with it. Even if you tried to sell it it could be flagged as stolen and then you’d be in the sh*t, so best bet is to try to return it.
