I’m looking into the “normal” and expected benefits at work. Our small business employs staff and just want to know what counts as good treatment and what you presume to be standard in a workplace?
things like-
what’s a normal annual bonus and do most people get these?
if you leave early, is this deducted from your pay? Does it matter what it’s for? (I don’t ask for proof of medical appointments)
if you went home sick, would you be paid in full for the day or deducted from the minute you left?
are you allocated a maximum number of fully paid sick days?

what’s a normal annual bonus and do most people get these?

I have worked in non sales roles where i never got bonuses at all. Working in sales I'm driving business revenue so get bonuses. I have also worked in non sales roles where I got a bonus. I earned around 30k at the time and recieved around 2% twice a year based on hitting KPIs and performance factors

if you leave early, is this deducted from your pay? Does it matter what it’s for? (I don’t ask for proof of medical appointments) Not in my current role. But if I was junior in my role I'd expect to follow the appointment process (usually this is proof of appointment and 1-2 hours given at manager discression)

if you went home sick, would you be paid in full for the day or deducted from the minute you left? Depends on sickness absence policy
. If in probation- no pay. If part day, measure it as such. Follow a sickness absence process and once a threshold is hit manage sickness/support needed/pay in line with policy

are you allocated a maximum number of fully paid sick days? Usually it's a guideline such as in line with Bradford factor or 3 instances or 10 days paid

I don’t get a bonus and haven’t in any job public and private sector.

If I leave early I make up the time elsewhere - I need to work my hours but when I do that is up to me other than attendance at meetings.

I have 3 months full pay and 3 months half pay if I’m sick. If I had to stop part way through the day I can choose to count it as a sick day and be paid or, if it’s an hour or so at the end of the day I’d work it back at some point.

My employer is excellent all round.
