Personal reference from manager or colleague

I’m being made redundant and employer provides a normal start/ leaving date reference.

As most places seem to want two references, I have checked with HR if I can ask manager or colleague and they said “you can ask your friends, but it can not be related to the company or commenting on your work”

it’s difficult as only worked remote with a couple of people I am thinking of asking(one being my current secondment manager) so unsure what sort of thing they can write that is not work related as they only ‘know’ me virtually.

any pointers much appreciated

Go ahead and ask your secondment manager. I am sure the reference request template will have guidance for the information required. Best wishes for your next chapter.
