Can't get a part time job anymore

Question2022 · 15/04/2025 11:59

I am looking to go back to work after being off for nearly 3 years.
I've been working at a trust hospital for 5 years as admin band 2 before I go on maternity and can't seem to find that many jobs available. I've applied for band 3 roles but couldn't make to to interview.

In my supporting statement I list out all the transferable skills for that role but always face a rejection.

When it comes to explaining gaps in employment I mention something like caring doe someone as in my son.

I think you may need to go back in as band 2. Your experience will be 3 years out of date compared to other applicants, so you get back in at previous level for a year or two and then apply for promotion.

First post nailed it .

i changed jobs after been self employed for 10 years , I didn’t go for promotion simply something I could do to explain I could be managed.

Even as band 2 I am not seeing many roles being advertised at the local trust.
I am thinking of alternatives at the moment.

Did you take any of the advice you were given in January?

There are lots of recruitment freezes at the moment in the NHS and other public sector organisations. Have you done anything to upskill while you’ve been off?

LeylaOfCircassia · 15/04/2025 12:38

Have you looked at non NHS admin roles, since you have admin experience?

Yes, and haven't been successful so far

All Band 2, 3 and 4 Admin at my trust have just gone to internal only.

chakrakkhan · 15/04/2025 13:39

You need to look outside the NHS then. You can’t expect to walk into a band 3 role, with no experience working at that level, having had 3 years out of work. You don’t have the experience and/or qualifications they are looking for and many of those roles will be earmarked for band 2’s already working in the dept.

Bambootrees · 15/04/2025 18:11

Perhaps you have to consider full time? Or other sectors? Change/adapt your initial plans. No many part time jobs at the moment.

Hi op was you good at your job? Did you have much sickness off? Sometimes if your applying to somewhere you have worked before your hr record is available to look at and this could be putting them off if you were good at your job keep trying jobs are just hard to come by at the minute especially part time. Have you tried schools?
