Task not being done

At work I have to file customer data files. I have had to input missing important data when I have been filing even though it’s not my role and it is for someone else to do but they just leave it. I noticed that for the past few years 2 people who have done that role have not been inputting customer communication details as well e.g prefer to be telephone or contacted after a certain time of day etc.

No one has really noticed this hasn’t been done and I don’t want to raise the issue as I will get lumbered with this task even though it is in someone else’s job description. Am I best to just leave it? I know if I say anything no one would help to do this extra task and they would not put extra resources in places as they are a bad organisation.

Flag it with your manager and say they need to do it, not you.

I think you need to say something so if the question comes up, you're not being questioned for ignoring it

It sounds a bit laborious. Can't the missing information be added next time you need to contact them or when they contact you next. I can't see how you can genuinely gather this after the fact without randomly contacting them and asking when do you want to be contacted and that's annoying for the customer. So I think you need to stop doing what you are doing anyway. It's someone else's mistake.

Leave it. If no one has noticed, no one has complained. Why give yourself more work?
