Would you rather 3.5 compressed weekday or 3 days?

I work in a corporate role and contemplating requesting flexible working. I was initially thinking of requesting working 4 days a week (.8) but I think the workload would still be quite close to full time. I do want to reduce workload and give the perception of “true” part time. I used to do this and felt like I was doing full time work squeezed into a shorter week.

Hence I’m now tossing up between 3 standard days (.6) or 3.5 days compressed into 3 days (.7) which would mean slightly longer days on the days that I do work. The upside of the compressed week means that I have slightly higher pay but still get 2 full days off. I have a kinder and school kid, the 2 full days mean I can do pickup and drop off in both of those days. And when both kids are in school I will have more time off during the school holidays plus some time for myself during the week.

What would you do? I’m also going to request 1 office day when I reduce my working hours as compared to currently which is 2 in office days as a full timer.

It depends what you can afford and which hours are more suitable for you.

As long as you have someone able to pick up your kids and they aren’t at wrap around all the time then I would do 0.7

More disposable income to use on your 2 days off.

But if it means stopping work and getting home after kids asleep and leaving before they wake then 0.6
