SAR as an employee

Wondering if anyone has any experience of this, if/when making a SAR to your employer - are your immediate team alerted about the request or is it done much more 'behind the scenes'? I suppose the answer varies based on the size and type of organisation but I'd appreciate any insight to mitigate any surprises!
Also, generally has anyone found making a SAR to their employer to be of any use in a complaint/grievance?

It depends what you ask for. If you ask for copies of e-mails about you, then they will normally need to ask the relevant people directly.

If for example, you work in finance and you ask for a copy of your HR file, then they won't tell your colleagues.
