local council job?

Considering applying for a part-time local council role. I already work freelance but the income is unpredictable and we could REALLY use some stability from my income right now. I wouldn't say I'm desperate but approaching it 😂 Have applied for and failed to get a few roles now, and time is ticking on...

The role they are advertising for I am quite over-qualified for, and the money isn't great - band is SC6. But I'm wondering if the stability and benefits (pension etc) might make this worth it? Also I wonder if there would be ANY chance of starting at the top of the pay band? (although in real terms this is only a difference of just over 1k a year)

Would love to hear thoughts.

In the LA where I work there would be no chance of starting at the top of the band but other councils may be different. The pension is very good and we have flexi time where we can accumulate an extra 2 days off per month by working the extra hours throughout the month. The leave is great and they are very flexible/supportive with carers leave, sick pay etc

@yeesh - thanks, that's great to hear. I'm not sure entirely sure I understand the pension benefit tbh. It's the sort of role where I could stay for the next 10+ years on a part-time basis, but equally, it might be more like 2 years with the demands of my other work.

Would it still be beneficial - or do these LGS pensions only become 'worth it' if you are there a long time? Just trying to get my head around the benefits, particularly as the salary is very much on the low side.
