Middle management hell

I’ve got the Sundays scaries already. I’ve not really had time to come down from Friday.

im in middle management hell - a boss who goes to meetings with other directors where they cook stuff up and then I’m told to make it happen.

i have a tiny team with two thirds of the kind who need instructions on how to make a cup of tea even though they’ve been here a million years. Public sector so performance management is yet more paperwork for me with no end in sight.

I don’t have the verbal diarrhoea skills to move to ‘leadership’ roles, and I’m good at my operational role, but god I’m exhausted.

I could have written this 😢 Public sector too. I have previously been off with work based stress and anxiety and I can feel myself heading back the same way. I have absolutely no solutions for you and can only offer solidarity. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some coping strategies for you.

I’ve been civil service management for years- shit from above and shit from below.

I'm similar. Recently decided to coast for a few months on the basis I know how hard it is to performance manage people and I'm not getting promoted there. Bliss.

<weary public sector middle management high five>

I’m on a temporary promotion but it’s been such a shitshow that I’m going back to my substantive role and I can’t bloody wait. It has been acknowledged that I am doing multiple people’s jobs but only when I went off with stress did anyone start doing anything about it.
