Not coping with extra responsibilities at work

I work in marketing for a global company and until recently had a great boss who was mentoring me. After a shift in the business I was asked to look after an additional new area but only agreed to it with the support and mentorship of my manager. I’m newish to leadership.

2 weeks after taking this on my manager was made redundant and after getting up to speed with the new area there are significant issues. The team has also been cut in half by the changes.

im feeling overwhelmed and out of my depth, with the pressure now growing to change things. With no manager I’m trying to lean on other more senior colleagues but am struggling with things.

what do I do? Should I ask for them to move the responsibility to someone else? Resign? Wait to be fired?

I’d look for a new job OP.

almost the exact same thing happened to me, manager gone and told no one would replace her plus insane workload. My worries came true because I actually was fired!
