It's only affected if you start work with a new employer when you are already pregnant.

To get SMP you have to have worked for your employer for 26 weeks up to and including the 15th week before your due date. A change of role within the same employer won’t affect it

I interviewed for a new role in my workplace, found out I was pregnant same week I got the offer.

I told them pretty much straight away (I had HG), they didn't care. Started the job at 6 months pregnant, went on maternity leave and they paid my occupational maternity at my promoted wage, got SMP just fine, went back to work as normal at promoted position.

Fine as long as your service was continuous,

If same employer then no you'll be fine
