Working as an extra

Anyone done this? As I’ve been made redundant thought it would be fun. I saw an ad for flux casting (anyone heard of them) applied and now they say they want to cast me as an extra on Harry Potter hbo series, given me a date, how much is be paid etc. all I have to do is take a basic acting course but of course the catch, you need to pay £12 to do a basic course in being an extra yada yada. Anyone know if legit? Would be fun but don’t want to be scammed either!!!

A friend of mine took up working as an extra as a hobby when she retired. She gets quite a lot of work because the agency says they don't have that many older people on their books so those they do have are always in demand. It often means very early morning starts in out of the way parts of London, but she chooses how much she wants to work and she enjoys it.

Is it really only £12 or is that a typo? I would look into what it covers - is it practical things like Health and Safety, who does what on set, etiquette about approaching the stars etc? (My friend says extras are not supposed to approach the stars, but the stars will sometimes come over and speak to them.)

How long are you likely to be employed for, and is the course accepted by other agencies/film companies? Could be a worthwhile investment.

£12. They are saying they’d need me for a week in Leavesden in July for the new Harry Potter tv series. They are filming then. Said they’d pay for all travel/accommodation/meals and you get £84 a day. Be a great experience! I am currently in final stages of interviews for jobs so am likely to become less available but I’d take a paid week out to do something that is on my bucket list. Just wanting to know the company is legit!

I'd be very suspicious. I think they're still casting the main characters for Harry Potter, so unlikely they're booking extras yet.
As well as the majority of extras will be school kids for that.

This sounds really interesting OP! How did you find out about it?
