Help! I have never succeeded in a COMPETITIVE interview

Sorry for the shouting!

I’m job hunting at the moment and it’s so demoralising. I’m about 50 applications in and have had 1 interviews…with another informal chat to come.

I’m a senior professional, with loads of experience and great feedback…but I thought back over my career and realised I’ve never ever been successful in an interview with other candidates.

Big Job 1: had started as an intern and worked my way up
Job 2: no other candidates
Job 3: unsuccessful at interview…then they had another vacancy come up which they offered me. And I met the successful candidate who was an absolute muppet.
Job 4: no other candidate
Job 5: no other candidate

Across this period I’ve had dozens and dozens of interviews. All unsuccessful. Nothing that’s stood out in the feedback beyond platitudes.

Am I completely doomed? I feel like it.

This isn’t necessarily a solution..but for anyone else in a similar situation I have just downloaded an app that enables me to do interview question practice and gives me feedback.

So far it’s telling me to give specific examples a lot.

Can't help you I'm afraid but I'd also love to know how to do better! I've had hits and misses over the years and no obvious reasons why that has been.

I feel your pain. I'm job seeking at the moment and have had a few interviews which I had thought went well, but no job offer. Went through similar a few years back and got down to final two on a couple of roles, but lost out to the other candidate. No helpful feedback so you end up wondering what you've done wrong. Redundancy has forced me back out onto the job market and it's a viper's pit out there. All you can do is keep going.
