Hi all - I need to upskill at work so I am able to do basic graphic design and video editing, eg adobe, Canva that kind of thing.
Courses I find seem to be v detailed in one area or other, or else people just seem to know it, somehow. I know they can be learnt from doing but I really need some kind of course to get me started - can anyone suggest any short course ? Thanks!

There's a lot to cover in any design program so I'm unsurprised you haven't been able to find a 'one stop shop' course!

I've sent team members to this company for different training courses: www.mediatraining.ltd.uk

This was for adobe, iPhone filming, video editing and other things too. I don't work there - I do work I marketing though (which is why I need my team up skilled to do their jobs!).

What do you mean by basic? Graphic design can be very complex are you talking about creating your own graphics putting together existing elements to create a flier? For video editing are you talking about snippets for social media which is cutting together film or editing sound, lighting, colour control etc?

I self taught using youtube and happy to send some links if you can give me an example use case?

@Marshmallowfirepit canva has loads of tutorials and also an excellent array of people
covering it on YouTube. It also now does basic video magic. I use the paid version extensively and love it. So much more accessible than the Adobe suite price wise as well.

video wise - it depends on the software you intend to use, the type of videos you are doing etc.

YouTube has basic editing available.

personally I do video and podcast editing and the main software I use is Descript. I just played with it and accessed their training and lots of YouTube tutorials.

other than that - Skillshare is good but pricey per year.

I also did some guerrilla film making course and journalism etc on mooc-list.com with FutureLearn (free units of study without certificates) - futurelearn.com worth having a look at what digital media courses are available. I can normally get through them within a day.

some courses are fantastic - but I don’t like paying for things until I’ve had a good look at the free resources.

happy to chat in the thread or DM if you want more help!
