Can I still get stat maternity pay?

I’m 15 weeks pregnant with my first baby, I have not told my employer yet.

I started my this job in December 2024 and found out I was pregnant 3 days after joining. I’ve struggled with infertility for a couple years so this was the best news ever!

I won’t have been there long enough to qualify for any work maternity policy (that’s if there even is one), so relying on statutory. My probation is 6 months and I’m preparing myself for the worst incase they get rid of me before probation is up.

My question is, if that were the case, would I still qualify for stat pay? I’ve worked continuously for years so would like to think this wouldn’t be an issue, but have no idea how it’s all calculated.

thank you in advance x

If you were pregnant when you started work them you won't qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay. You should be able to get Maternity Allowance though. It is the same weekly amount as SMP but without the first 6 weeks at 90% of salary.

Yeah this.

For SMP you have to have been employed by the same employer continuously for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant, so you will probably not be eligible.

You can get Maternity Allowance though which as this poster says is the same weekly but you don’t get the first 6 weeks at 90% so it is less overall.
