Unions any good?

Going through an employment issue and feel like I'm missing something here. They sent me a pdf on the issue I'm facing and that's it. Not responded to emails, no individual support, no phone call. What is the point?

Phone them up. They are usually reasonably good with employment help.

Impossible to say on that amount of details. My union has always been fantastic.

They don't tend to get overly involved until it gets to a disciplinary hearing stage.

Some unions are good others are useless, often down to tge attitude of the induvidual representative.

If your Union is useless, switch. Go join another.

My DH had a false allegation of bullying made against him last year and his union at the time were useless. They attended the first few meetings and just sat and didn't offer anything.

So, he switched.

Union 2 offered guidance, explained things and when the findings meeting was held, they tore the investigator apart for all the errors made and the evidence that was ignored. DH was cleared BTW.

That's who you want in your corner. A union available to you and support at all times.

Thanks - that's my feeling. I had a free consultation with an employment lawyer and she was amazing - on everything, asked lots of pertinent questions about what had been discussed thus far. The union people were really hard to get in touch with. They said I didn't have a representative at my company and then suddenly I did. All a bit too late and unhelpful. If you don't mind messaging me the name of your dh's good union I might switch to them for the future!

Sorry he had to face false allegations, that must have been awful.
