Thanks for your efforts?

Help me over-analyse my boss's email please! She sent a thank you note to our whole team, thanking each person individually for their contribution. For me (team leader) she said 'thank you for your efforts this year'. Others (slightly junior to me) had comments like 'thanks for all your hard work'. Am I right to feel slightly damned by faint praise or am I being completely oversensitive?

Definitely over thinking! Your boss was probably trying to think of different ways of saying thanks so it looked like she’d put some thought into it, instead of just saying thanks everyone.

Thanks! Clearly there's some back story here but I left it out for brevity and to get unbiased answers. In case it's important, the emails were sent to each individual but I was copied into them all as team lead.

You're overthinking and perhaps more of a "glass half empty" sort of person.

I tend to be "glass half full" and would have taken this to mean that my boss was congratulating me on how much effort I'd put in with my team, as they'd all worked so hard.

I think the message is different because you're a manager and therefore responsible for getting your team to deliver and work hard. And you did that very well.

Thanks, this is all incredibly helpful to hear. Really appreciate it, and accept I'm being a bit glass half empty!

At least you got a thank you
At one of my first jobs my shitty boss thanked everyone except me!
