I’ve completed half my masters, I need to find some legal experience. Would a legal secretary role be ok?
also I applied for a litigator role and they’ve offered me an interview despite me stating I’m half way through my masters. Is this normal?

pls help mumsnet lawyers

You want paralegal experience. In a small firm you might have some admin tasks to do. How much of this role is secretarial work? Work experience is crucial. I recruit trainees and I am keen they all have work experience but am looking for a trainee to be useful on day one with legal skills not PA support skills. Depends really on what they expect of you and what the make up of firm is.

Hi OP, what are you looking to do in future? Are you looking for work in a law firm or an in house role? Is litigation of particular interest?
I would say paralegal experience is what you need rather than legal secretarial, but it’s competitive.
I hired a paralegal recently but we needed them to undertake a certain amount of admin work as well so maybe something where you would be willing to do other types of work would be helpful.
What previous jobs have you done - emphasise all your transferable skills, including the soft skills. Best of luck!
