Littlesticklebrick · 01/02/2025 22:23

A position for an assistant head teacher post has come up at my school. I’ve actually worked there for 20 years and because of this I’m finding it difficult to begin my letter of interest! I wondered if any fellow teachers/ assistant HT’s or HT’s could advise me? Im
in an infant school.
Thank you!

Use all your experience and knowledge of the school to write with passion about what you love about the school and how you would help move it on as AHT

Can you ask for this to be moved to the the staffroom which is for teachers?

Try CHAT GTP as a scaffold

What are their "buying buttons" ie what does the school need

What are your strengths/ USP

How does what you do affect the child the class the school the wider community?

What are you top three achievements in the past three years?

How does data play a roles?

What does the school need to developed and how can you help.

A structure that works well in application letters: knock-them-between-the-eyes short opening para that links the primary needs of the school with your strengths, highlighting on your achievements at the school so far; summary points following the skills and attributes specified in the job description and using as many metrics as possible; closing short para stating why you believe you are the right person for the role and what you would bring that's new. Try to work in something that shows your ability to consider the national context - curriculum changes due, falling levels of school readiness, the recently published research on parental attitudes. Good luck!
