Performance Improvement Plan question

user8299100 · 30/01/2025 18:21

Can a whole team be put on PIP? My team at work is under performing and tasks are not getting completed on time or correctly. My manager has never spoken to me about any concerns about my work, as far as I am aware I do the tasks correctly on the days I am in ( i work part time) I cannot be responsible for what happens on my days off.
He has now stated that all the team are going to be put on a PIP can he do this?

If you have a team target, not just individual targets then I assume yes they can.

If the whole team are underperforming then yeah, I’d assume so. Are you personally underperforming against any agreed metrics/KPIs?

Also - if a whole team isn’t performing, I’d question the abilities of the manager. I’d be very surprised if his line management aren’t.

If you are the manager of the team, yes you absolutely can. But I’m not sure from your post whether you are the manager if the team, or a team member?

If you go on a pip there will be specific targets for you to achieve related to your job.

as long as you meet yr targets you will be fine

the pip can’t have ‘team targets’ eg everyone will sell 5 cars, as you can achieve that target yourself, only your specific targets. Eg Bob will sell 1 car in 3 months

should be SMART targets

it seems companies are getting PIP happy. Our dept leadership changed and in a v short time the whole rhetoric changed. Me and a colleague were put on one and I put staff who were also not hitting KPIs on one. Big structural changes coming up so think I’m slowly being managed out which is difficult as the job market seems tough. I wish you luck!

Thank you for all the replies, we don't have targets so that isn't the problem it is more to do with tasks not being done correctly by team members.
I am not the manager just a team member.

In your position, I’d be asking for specific feedback around my performance and if you are working to the correct standard.

If you are working to the right standard, I’m not sure how measurable improvement targets could be set.
