Part time and compressed hours?

I want to go part time and need some advice please. I currently work 37 hours a week Monday to Friday so 7 hrs 24 mins every day. With part time I want to work 3 days Mon to Wed so I have more time with my baby so 8 hours Monday and 8.5 hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday which will be 25 hours in total. Can I do this or am I only allowed to do 7 hrs 24 mins each day. Google and my work policy is unclear about this. I work in civil service and I don't know much about the flexible working rights etc. as I've only ever worked full time so would greatly appreciate any input and advice please.

Thanks

For a flexible working request you should state what flexible arrangement you want and it is up to your manager to decide if that will work for the organisation. If they refuse it then it needs to be for one of the permissible reasons. These are all on ACAS.
I am sure there are others in your organisation who work compressed hours.

I do 3 days, 7:45-5:45 so long days but I get my old 4 days of work done in 3 so it works for me and them as desk space is limited. It's certainly doable. I take 30 mins unpaid lunch.

Legally 8.5 hours would be fine. I guess beyond that it depends on your business. They could deny flexible working if there was a clear lack of need. If for example you could only do your work with other members of your team, you could be denied working for an hour on your own. If you work in a shop from 8.30-5.30 and wanted to do 6-4, they could say well no, we don't open till 9 and there's only half an hour's worth of stuff to do before opening, and we need someone on until half an hour after close to clear up, so we aren't paying you to start earlier than 8.30 and you will leave a team short if you knock off before 5.30 so you need to stay till then.

@imagineunicorns Compressed hours is full time hours in 4 days or a 9 day fortnight.

Part time can be working longer but fewer days 3 x 8 hours is very common in the Civil Service. The 8.5 days would be fine too, personally I would suggest 8.34 hours (8 hours 20 minute) x 3 and to use flexi time to work longer and shorter days as best fits your life.
