Good morning,

I'm thinking about starting a totally brand new career at 46. I want a fresh start and new qualifications. Is it to late to start a mid-wifery course etc , am I told old to retrain, will anybody hire me with no experience let's say at 48/49 years old if I get the qualifications 🤔🤷‍♀️

I'd say go for it! If you can afford to do it, why not!

There's a shortage of midwives isn't there?

It is never too late. I manage a guy in his 50s who made the switch to Civil Service public policy from an operations role. He took a pay cut and is literally starting at the bottom but he’s doing really well and firmly believe he’ll be G7 before long with potential for G6.

Admittedly he doesn’t need to do any courses / new degree and he’s learning on the job so it’s easier but I don’t see why you can’t have a career switch at any age?

Hell, I intend to stop working in a few years and pursue a masters+PhD for passion rather than career. I’ll be in my late 40s then.

Never too late to follow dreams!

There really is and all my experiences have been amazing. It's something I'd always had in the back of my mind but never had the time .

You've got 20 years ahead of you (at least) until you get to state pension age, so go for it!
