Kit days

I am currently on maternity leave, and have been for a few months. Never done KIT days in my last mat leave as wasn’t aware of it. I have reached out to my employer to ask to do some kit days this month and she said they aren’t that busy.

what is the procedure/ process? Should I have gone through HR first? And do they have to accommodate me if I want to do KIT days, or is it as and when I’m required and works for the both of us?

Ask HR for a copy of their policy on KIT and take it from there. I've never taken it as an employee, but when I did it for people working for me it wasn't so much about coming back in to do work, but meeting up with people they hadn't seen in a while, getting updates on what had been happening in the business while they had been away, making sure that their personal admin - such as leave and appraisal stuff - was up to date. Not doing a 'days work' if you see what I mean?

KIT days are great, but employers can decline them.
