Returning to work after Mat Leave

If someone goes on maternity leave and then requests part time, if the workplace doesn't accept do they have to offer another role within the business or can they just say no and the person have no job?

Do you mean the person chooses to leave because they only want to work part time? Or would they stay full time but the company is trying to force them out?

No one is entitled to work part time instead of full time - they're entitled to request it though. I'd imagine if there are part time positions the person could apply for them, but doubt they'd move them without an interview unless it's the same kind of role. They certainly don't 'have to'.

Neither of those things really. The person has a full time job, the company can’t accommodate part time, but they will still have their full time role. The person can either stay on full time or resign and look for a part time job elsewhere.

You have the right to ask for part time or reduced hours but they do not have to accept your request or offer another role that can be worked part time. You then have the option to stay full time or leave.

I requested a 4 day week when returning from maternity; I was told my original role couldn't accommodate the reduced hours and I was offered another more flexible role. Unfortunately the role wasn't even remotely similar or inline with my experience. I did fight for my original role but then found out my cover was being paid £7k more which they weren't willing to give me. I didn't want to work somewhere I wasn't valued so left. Unfortunately it's not uncommon.
