Public speaking

I was nervous about doing a talk in work and spoke to my friend and their only comment was ‘that’s what you get for doing a higher paid job. Not worth the stress or hassle’. The comment really annoyed me as I thought they would be a bit more reassuring. Am I being too sensitive?

Do they earn less? I feel like maybe it's an (unkind!) prod to 'justify' themselves. I'm a higher earner and have lost count of the jibes like this from family/old friends when discussing literally anything negative about my role - I've distanced myself now!

On the flip side, it's a perfectly normal thing to be nervous about. Public speaking is definitely a skill, and the more you do it the better you'll get! Rooting for you 💐

She was rude but not necessarily wrong, I guess. More power, more responsibilities.

Regardless it was a dick way to phrase it.
