I have a 3 year old son. We recently had a message on the childcare choices portal to say we were now eligible for the 30h childcare (from Jan term) with a code. I’m confused because when I tried to apply previously I’ve always been told I don’t earn enough (I earn around £500-800 a month - it varies! and my partner earns £1450) but it was a pleasant surprise so gave the code to nursery, all fine.
I recently logged back in to reconfirm the details as requested by hrmc via email. Now they’ve sent me a message asking me to call them to check employment details etc and nursery say the code is flagged on their system.

Can they revoke this code? I’m terrified it won’t work and i’ll end up with a big bill for Jan hours!

I suspect they’ll ask to see my wages but my previous tax returns were 2022 and 2023 and I earnt a lot less then.

Can anyone help?

If you annualise your salary, do you earn enough in three months to both be over the threshold?

They won’t use your old tax returns, so don’t worry about those.

If the code has been flagged, no hours will be chargeable until it’s sorted. If you’re not entitled but a code was issued in error, they’ll pay until they notified you, but that may not cover any notice period at the nursery to reduce hours. If you provided incorrect information, they may not honour any hours, but that’s unusual.

I wouldn’t stress. They may well just want proof of income for the last three months.
