I’m looking to change my job and think I’d like to try my hand at being a HCA. What’s anyone’s experience of this? There’s some vacancies at our local hospital.
Thank you.

Hard work. Crazy hours. Low paid.

I'm a nurse.

I’m also a nurse. The work, pay and responsibilities as a HCA are ridiculous. Look into training to be a nurse.

Having worked as a Care Assistant/Healthcare Assistant in a private Nursing Home, I’d say you’re probably better off in a hospital. Slightly better hourly rate (I think) and bank holidays in lieu.

Sadly seen too many that just don’t have the patience for that kind of work, so make sure you’re suited to the role and have patience and understanding. And be prepared to work hard and be on your feet all shift!

Use it as a springboard into something better paid.
