Interview feedback

I’m so done with interviews and being told someone with ‘more experience’ has got the job. I’m chasing a medical admin job and this is like the scripted feedback I’m always told. I need to know - what exactly is the ‘more experience’ and how do I get it when I’m still trying to get a step up to that grade in the first place because being in lower clerical and admin jobs isn’t cutting it

Last 3 jobs I went for went to internal candidates with less experience overall but basically knew the specific organisation. I’ve been second choice and nothing I could do differently as I’m told I interviewed well but the specific experience the internal candidates had was useful for them. Stupid thing is, give me 3 months and I’d be up to speed and running rings round the ones who got the job (I say this as I work in an organisation that crosses over and know two of the successful candidates). It’s infuriating, time consuming and exhausting.

Sorry, no advice just joining you for a moan.

What sort of medical admin? If you’re looking at hospital jobs, maybe try GP practices?

If you’re on afc could you try something at a higher band but in a slightly different role? Often once you are on a band it is easier to get other jobs on the same band.

It is frustrating. Does your current employer offer any work coaching or mentoring schemes?

I’m trying to get up to a band 3 secretary from a band to clerical worker. What I do is nothing like a secretary’s work or a very small part of it. I’ve had qualifications in medical secretarial and just can’t get there. I’ve literally been trying for years. Even before joining the NHS and before getting my qualifications where I still always got an interview but never the job. The job I’m in right now is the first one in years I’ve been offered

I don't know if it's the same in your Field but I was facing the same issue and feedback. Then I realised it was networking and who you know and that's what helped me get my next roles.
