Maternity pay

Hi can someone help me?

I originally was returning to work after maternity leave in January (9months leave) but I don’t feel ready to leave my baby yet.

I told my manager and gave enough notice so waiting on her getting back to me.

I assumed I would get gov mat pay the remaining 3 months as my work won’t be paying me is that correct?

I live in Scotland and work for the nhs (for 10+ years)

How do I go about this? Is it through my work or do I need to phone hmrc?

i can’t find any information relating to my dilemma online. Any advice please xx

Statutory maternity pay is only 39 weeks, so if you are taking 52 weeks the last 13 will be unpaid.

You will have accrued annual leave while on maternity leave, can you use that instead if you need the pay?

I don't know the Scottish rules but the rest of the UK is no pay for last 3 months. Certain employers will let you split any occupational mat pay over the whole period ie 6 months full pay can be paid over 12 months but you would need to ask for this in advance

You will also have accrued any bank holidays on top of annual leave

Also in Scotland but work for a local authority. In my role we get 13 weeks full pay, 26 weeks SMP and 13 weeks unpaid. It was HR who I had to communicate with and sorted everything out.
