Change of career

Has anyone changed careers at 40?

I've been working in insurance for 19 years, I've just changed jobs and I hate it! Insurance is so clicky and everyone knows everyone else.

I'm thinking of changing jobs, I've always hated injustice and loved sticking up for people - has anyone ever worked as an Advocate? I've never heard of this profession before and wondered if anyone had any experience in this?

I started planning a change at 40, managed to get onto new career ladder at 42 and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. 40 is still quite young and I am full of enthusiasm for my new career whereas I felt cynical and dried up in my old one.

Thank you, I'm really down at the moment. I've had such a hard year through family members being in hospital, covid twice and my sister unexpectedly passing. I thought this new job would be a fresh start it's my second week and I've been led down a river .... not looking forward to Christmas at all.

I just want a job I enjoy that feels rewarding

Long story short: my career in academic research was going nowhere, I left a shitty job, only to get another shitty job. I was envious of my partner and his friends (all work in IT) who had no problems switching job and climbed the career ladder easily. Anyway, at the age of 39 and with a 10 months old baby, I decided to change career. That was exactly one year ago. I did a 2-months intensive training, then found a new job straight away, though it was junior level, and already have had a promotion, starting next month. Best career decision I've made, my only regret it's not doing it sooner.

I hope so because I'm looking to change as well.
