Maternity Benefit

Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong thread, just need some advice.

So I've recently found out I'm pregnant & been at my current company for a year. I've just had a look at the Maternity Policy & it says that we get 2 weeks full pay, 12 weeks 90% & weeks 13 onwards Maternity benefit if entitled. It says we have to apply for it with the DEASP? It says "some colleagues may be entitled to receive Maternity benefit if they have enough PRSI contributions for the first 26 weeks of their pregnancy, please contact them for more information" It then says I need to send the statement to HR?

I work for a large retailer at head office, so a lot of people are hourly paid employees, but I am not so just a little confused. At my old job with my last pregnancy they did it all & I got SMP after a certain point. Has anyone else heard of this?

Are you in Ireland? Might be worth specifying as otherwise posters will assume UK.

@JustAFear no I'm in the UK, so this is confusing me. We are a UK company & it's the only policy on file

PRSI is not found in the UK - it's the Republic of Ireland. So, assuming your geography is not all that bad, you perhaps need to have a word with your employer? You may have accessed the wrong policy.
