I work for a lovely small place which is undergoing an office move. Spoke up last week about lack of clarity on a serious issue (asbestos present there). Today we were shown the new office and i AGAIN spoke up about the team is being split up on 2 different floors, boss very quiet and I think I have become the office loud mouth. WWYD.

What do you mean, you were the ‘loudmouth’? If you raised important issues in a civil manner in an appropriate setting, what’s the issue?

BrightLightTonight · 05/12/2024 23:23

It sounds like you are aware you are being inflexible. First office has serious health issues, you complained, company has done something about it, you complained

It sounds like the asbestos is in the new office, and the OP wanted clarity on that. Today they went to see the asbestos office and found out the team is being split, this may not affect the upper management who made this decision but will affect the actual team in day to day running so the OP questioned the viability of that. I don’t see anything she has done wrong other than ask for clarity in two important issues.

No the new office had a lack of clarity around asbestos and yes I was inflexible about it as I and another colleague have lost loved ones due to asbestosis. I actually stand by that but am aware it didn't go down well. All sorted now.
Second issue I shdve kept mouth blooming shut. I am beong a pita basically to management.

yep been there. Hugs It is so hard when your mouth just wont shut even when you are like that is an inside thought.....lol

Pinkissmart · 06/12/2024 00:34

So- do you know for sure there is asbestos? Why did you feel compelled to ask?

PlantDoctor · 06/12/2024 00:44

Your comments make sense. If the boss is taking it badly it's because he's trying to rush something important and not thinking about issues properly .

Allwelcone · 06/12/2024 00:50

Thanks everybody I feel a bit better now. I thin k I was aggressive in the second comment I made and hurt my bosses feelings though (and my reputation)

Yes I did its sorted now but there was a lack of clarity. I freaked my boss out when I told him sadly. The second issue was totally unrelated (although I was still a bit unsettled due tocthe first) but my big mouth ran away and I think I was aggressive

Yep, that's me, too. However, I couch it as being the one to stick my head above the parapet. Why? Because there are times when someone has to do it and there is nothing wrong with being a spokesperson.

Nothing wrong with asking questions but maybe consider asking them in a softer way that don’t seem confrontational? So for example about the team being split ‘Its so great having a new office and we are all really excited at our new environment. My understanding is that we are now over two floors? Completely understand we have to adapt to our new office, but can you please help us understand how we can ensure maximum efficiency in our team when we don’t all sit together’?

MrsSchnickelfritz · 06/12/2024 08:58

Aggressive, how? Nothing wrong with speaking up or expressing an opinion but everything wrong with aggression

Namechangetheyarewatching · 06/12/2024 09:03

Why as a female are you the loud mouth but if male you would have been raising important issues.

Ffs you were not a loud mouth

Allwelcone · 06/12/2024 20:08

Right thanks for all the comments- I would love to be a manager here one and sadly loud mouths don't make the grade. I don't know what happened, I got so stirred up by " the crowd," tbh I do t much care about the office layout I cared bc the staff hadn't been consulted and it's a huge office to buy for a tiny team ....I feel he cd do better and he also does have doubts. My own manager is really lovely but hates conflict and contrived to be absent to soften it for me (took a phone call SO convenient) .
