What to wear for this job interview?

DS has got a job interview for a management trainee scheme at a hotel chain (- would be first "career" type job since graduating from university). He is anxious to dress appropriately for the interview.. He is thinking suit and tie. He has a suit, the colour of which I would describe as "airforce blue". Does that sound OK? (He is looking to me for advice, but I have worked in the same job for years and years, so am out of touch re what people wear for job interviews these days.)

A smart suit and tie sounds fine to me

Yea suit will be fine. Plain white shirt. Simple tie - one colour with no loud patterns or design. Shoes and belt to match - preferably brown but darker rather than caramel. Ironed well. Polished shoes. Dark socks - not white!

For me it’s less about the colour and more about effort to look smart and well put together. Consider his coat too. Nothing large or too casual otherwise don’t wear one. Should bring a bag with pen and paper in case he needs to write something down - don’t do this on your phone. Bag should be smart and not a rucksack.

Good luck to him!

Usually similar to professional wear thats used in the company already, eg dress for the part you want etc

I'd say quite formal is good for a high end hotel, so suit, white shirt, plain tie, formal shoe. In something a bit more creative or less public facing I'd say a tie might be somewhat overkill. But I'm guessing this type of role they probably appreciate such things. Confident eye contact, warm smiles, and showing enthusiasm for them as a business will be the most important things along with his appearance. I wish him luck x
