Always wanted to work in psychology, and now I'm focused on getting a job in it in a next few years. Any experience working for CAMHs?

Do you mean you are you already training in clinical or counselling psychology? Or do you mean a job as a psychology assistant?

I enjoyed working there. Lots of different roles including assistant practitioner or assistant psychologist if you don’t yet have a profession.

My career was in CAMHS. Much maligned on MN !
Having been through at least 3 change of Trust provider I think it can depend on how good the Trust is and definitely how well they understand the geography and demographics of the population in the area they tender for as that can have a massive impact on the service.

We used to have Psychology Assistants who wanted experience before applying for Clin. Psych training. They'd pretty much all studied at post graduate level before applying to CAMHS and there's lots of competition for positions.

It can't have escaped your attention that childrens MH services is in a pretty dreadful state and they're now seeing YP who, when I began my NHS career, would have been admitted to a CAMHS inpatient unit. Now they're assessed and then put on a waiting list for a group, typically run by the least qualified clinicians .

Do your homework on the Trust in the area you want to work.
