Feeling hopeless - how to stay motivated?

Namechanged as possibly outing.

I've got nearly 25 years experience in my professional sector. Been freelancing for the past decade, and now very ready to work for a single company again - freelance gigs in my (struggling) industry are becoming as rare as hen's teeth. My DH also took a pay cut in a new role following redundancy, so we are financially very tight, and I need to find something.

For several months I've been making lots of approaches, sending off my CV, having initial conversations and so on. Recently had a good interview for a role I was very much qualified for, but it went to someone who had the same role at a competitor company.

I'm getting nowhere and feel so low about it all - I'm beginning to worry I'll NEVER properly work again! I have a lot of transferrable skills/experience so I just don't see why it's so hard to find anything.

Anyone else experiencing similar? How did you stay motivated to keep going? Thanks so much.

The job market isn’t great at the moment and so I would keep going. These things are often a bit of a numbers game.

Are you on LinkedIn? Using industry recruiters?

Keep you chin up it can be very demoralising but you will get something eventually!

It is tough at the moment for many and resilience is key. What is the current issue? Are you seeing roles to apply for? Are you getting invited to interviews when you apply? If there’s a recurring stumbling block then focus your efforts there. Job seeking burn out is very real so think careful about how you manage your time when job searching, take breaks, celebrate the small wins along the way. Keep going and you will get there eventually, every small effort is getting you closer to where you want to be. Keep planting those seeds!

Sorry for slow reply, and thank you for the encouragement! I've actually got an interview for a job early next week so let's see...

The last role I interviewed for went to someone internal which was a bit frustrating - feels like I've faced a few 'fallen at the last hurdle' scenarios like this, coupled with the slightly soul destroying experience of applications never being applied to, or being ghosted at a certain point etc.

I know all I can do is keep trucking on, but it feels pretty tough right now. Thanks again.
