Career break after maternity leave

Ho I am looking to see if anyone has taken a career break straight after maternity leave and if so any advice on how to approach this with my boss . I am coming to the end of 12 months mat leave with my 3rd child (all under 5 years old) and with the exception of a couple of months 'wprking from home' doing 'admin tasks' in-between mat leaves and sick leave , when I am due to return at the start of the new year I will ha e had 5 years out of the business . my first child was born during COVID and this coupled with a miscarriage a year after my 1st child , put me in a bad mental place and work at the time helped me with counselling and I was accepted onto their enhanced sick pay package. I know I have been looked after extremely well in terms sof job security from my employer over the last 5 years , but after looking at all options of returning to work feel this would be better placed for us all if I was to return in another year or so when my middle child is in nursery and starting school and my 11 month old is older also. we don't really have have anyone to help regarding childcare so the last 5 years have been very much hands on parenting with my husband working and him helping whilst working from home . Returning to work now would also impact school runs etc too.

just wondering if a career break would be an option and how I would approach this . Is this something others have requested ? TIA

Do you mean paid or unpaid break

Does your company have a policy on career breaks? You'd be pushing it after 5 years tbh. If it's unpaid they'll probably agree as they're used to not having you there and will assume you won't be back.

I did this after mat leave. The policy allowed for a one year unpaid career break.

thankyou . yea they offer career breaks ...before having kids I assumed they were mainly for travelling etc but now I'm wondering if I could use one for an extra year to be with the kids and set up more of a routine with school nursery etc . yes it would be unpaid .

Look into the policy. In my workplace there is an option to take it date to caring/ childcare reasons.
It all depends on your employer though. In my workplace once you come back, you get training to get you back up to speed but then you need to stay in the workplace for 2 years.
