Accessing job coaching?

DH (54) has been unemployed for a year after being sacked from a higher level job due to a large error. DH (undiagnosed ASD) has had a ‘checkered’ job history where he has had spells of skilled higher paid work and long spells of inactivity.

He has applied for numerous jobs in his field and been interviewed many times but none have worked out. He is understandably extremely down about it. He is being aged out of his field and his skills are becoming out of date.

We have been living off my income but I have had to leave a job through ill heath and although I will still be working part time we cannot survive on this alone. We do not qualify for benefits due to savings and assets but we are trying to avoid spending the pension fund. I mentioned this to explain that early retirement is not an option.

a friend has recently had successful job coaching through the job centre ( on benefits due to MH issues) and it sounds like the kind of thing DH needs ( he really needs to move to a new sector and work at a much lower level than previously)

However does anyone know if you can apply for this if you are not in reciept of benefits or on a MH support pathway?

or if there is a free ( or cheap ) route to accessing this support? TIA

Hi, not sure about coaching but I know the National Careers Service can also give olu guidance. They offer free one to one guidance sessions either by telephone and face to face in some areas.
