Emailing hiring managers?

I've been reading some articles and seeing posts on Linkedin about emailing thank yous to hiring managers.

I always do this anyway with the HR contact who I've been speaking to, to pass on my thanks and interest but would you also email the actual hiring manager if you don't have direct contact? A friend suggested doing this and working out their email address if I don't have it but I don't know if that seems a bit creepy?

I think if I knew you didn't have my email and managed to figure it out and email me, I'd be less likely to offer you the job 😂 Screams 'stalker' a bit too much.

My sympathies though. I very nearly did this myself when I kept apply and didn't get anywhere! Looking back from a hiring manager position I'm mortified I considered it!

I can't see that it would particularly influence my decision. I've had people contact me who have already been unofficially rejected. It made me feel a little sorry for them but certainly didn't make me reconsider.

I guess if you already have their details and you know the interview went well, it could keep you front of mind in a crowded market but I hadn't considered how it could be a bit awkward if you've already been internally rejected @Doyoumind .

I wouldn’t the decision will have been made after and to be honest it just wastes business time dealing with it. I always welcomed relevant, sensible questions about the role before the interview process, although be aware that to keep a level playing field the responses should be shared with all applicants.
