New role has come up before I've started job offer

Hello,

I am currently serving my notice period having accepted a job at another local authority. My references, DBS check are done and contract is signed. I start in December.

However, another role has come up at the same local authority but in a much better team for me, closer to home. I had always intended to move to this team and hoped once I took the initial position, in time I might hear of internal transfers.

My question is, in my position can I apply for this new role? Would it jeopardise my role that I've accepted but not started? Since I've already handed my notice in at my current job, if I were offered this newest role I would have to see if the compliance (references/DBS check) could simply be carried across.

Just would love to try and see if I could get this newest role but don't want to shoot myself in the foot in the process!

if you’ve signed a contract already i suggest you speak to an expert like ACAS as you may have to work your notice period
what does it say in that contract about accepting another role etc / would they even enforce it?
Being realistic you could speak to the new role, explain then situ and see what they say about checks etc
the employer you’ve signed a contract with may not be pleased etc and could enforce what’s in the contract

Hmm it says the probation period is 6 months and the notice period in that time is 4 weeks. But I haven't actually started by probation period yet - my start date being December I am not exactly sure how it works between contract signing and start date. I will see about ACAS.
