I have been working as a contractor for several months for the same company. The role is pretty different to what I had done before but I hadn’t appreciated quite how different, so has been a steep learning curve.
Essentially I don’t feel I am very good at it and have not been enjoying it as a result. The day rate is very good which makes me nervous as to what they’re expecting. (For context they have gone through around 4-6 contractors in the last few years.)
I realised quite soon in that I wanted to leave but decided to stick with it while I looked for another role (which I’m currently doing).
The company extended my initial 10 week contract by another 10 weeks but have now started taking work away from me and I can see my boss had a meeting with HR (I don’t know if it’s specifically about me but there’s a possibly it’s about termination). My termination period is 3 weeks on either side.
I am tempted to leave without another role to go to as finding the atmosphere and stress quite difficult to handle. Feedback has been that “you are doing well considering your level of experience” which I think is their way of avoiding a difficult conversation. Should I crack on until I find something / they get rid (whichever comes first) or quit? I really do not have a lot to do and they know this…
