Weekly vs Monthly paid

I’m just wondering what you find better? I’m monthly paid so supposedly in a more secure position (though I’m not sure this is currently the case).

or weekly paid?

Just wondering what preference is & why?

I've never been paid weekly as it tends to be NLW type roles that pay every week. I have in the past acquired businesses where employees were paid weekly and transitioned them to monthly pay which they ultimately preferred as found it difficult to budget when paid weekly.

DreamW3aver · 26/10/2024 22:20

Are there many jobs nowadays where you get paid weekly?

NewName24 · 26/10/2024 22:21

For permanent, full or part time jobs, I think monthly is easier because most bills tend to be monthly.

For my dd who picks up shifts here and there in various zero hour contracts, sometimes at short notice, weekly is better because it is easier to check the pay matches the hours and there will be witnesses remembering you being there if there are any discrepancies.

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 26/10/2024 22:22

I much prefer weekly if I have a choice. I find it easier to budget personally, but that's possibly because my early jobs were all weekly pay so that's what I got used to.

Eeeeeeeeeekohno · 26/10/2024 22:32

I can't imagine having to wait a month to be paid, I think it would really piss me off. And in an age with instant digital payments I don't think employers can really justify it. I invoice monthly for additional work I do for extra money, but I'm paid weekly for my main job, a week in arrears, and can't imagine accepting a role that resulted in a deterioration of payment terms.

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/10/2024 22:39

Monthly paid because most direct debits are monthly.
DH used to be paid every 4 weeks. That was a nightmare for budgeting as pay day moved back a week nearly every month and occasionally he got paid on the 1st and 29th of the same month.

aintnospringchicken · 26/10/2024 22:40

The only time I ever got paid weekly was when I had a Saturday job working in a shop when I was still at school

Comefromaway · 26/10/2024 22:48

I’m monthly paid as are all the office staff where I work but the tradespeople on site are weekly paid. There would be rebellion if we changed them to monthly.

WeNindow · 26/10/2024 23:16

I've never been paid weekly, except Saturday job when at school.
DH also always paid monthly.

Otherwise it would be demote complicated to budget as all our direct debits come out monthly, usually in the week or so after pay day

Ihatemondays1962 · 26/10/2024 23:24

Monthly, the majority of my DD's come out on the 1st and then it means I know how much I have left for the rest of the monthly. Weekly would be a pain.

Kitkat1523 · 26/10/2024 23:53

Not been paid weekly since I was a Saturday girl aged 16 / 17

ColinRobinsonsFart · 27/10/2024 08:06

DH gets paid weekly. He earns £40,000 plus a year.
I am self employed so my income is erratic.
We never have the boom and bust of monthly income - we always make sure we have enough in our current accounts for bills, the rest goes in the savings accounts

DancefloorAcrobatics · 27/10/2024 08:16

I prefer monthly as all my bills are paid monthly. I don't think there are many weekly paid jobs around.

However, I did get paid weekly for 2 jobs while on probation - factory type jobs / companies that I used as gap filler or quick stepping stone.

XelaM · 27/10/2024 08:22

Being paid weekly is amazing.

In the US I think fortnightly is the norm? Much much better than monthly

Positivenancy · 27/10/2024 08:26

Only ever been paid weekly as a teen in a part time job. Used to be paid fortnightly in a previous job and I liked that. Am paid monthly now, it’s all the same to be honest

Ollybob · 27/10/2024 08:34

I've had a few jobs and been paid in different ways.
Monthly works out well for budgeting as most bills are monthly.
Weekly was far too easy to spend more than your budget as there was always more money coming in a few days.
Worst was last Friday of the month as it would either be 4 or 5 weeks between paydays, so I'd often get 4 weeks pay to last 5 weeks! On low pay that's not great.

mummyh2016 · 27/10/2024 09:56

I get paid monthly, and DH gets paid weekly. It did irritate me at first but we just use my wages for main bills like mortgage etc and DHs is used for food and general day to day purchases. We're paid into the same account.

HildaHosmede · 27/10/2024 10:07

I get paid monthly and dh weekly.

It works well for us. My salary is pretty much the exact amount of all of ours bills/regular payments plus long term savings. So that just disappears every month without us touching it.

Dh's money each week is then just for 'life' - food, haircuts, fun stuff, holidays, Xmas etc.

Clicheinaqashqai · 27/10/2024 13:52

We are exactly the same as @HildaHosmede

My monthly salary pays the big bills, DH's weekly (construction) pay does the food shop, days out, and fun money for the week.
