Job in Leeds

Hello,
It's been over a year since I have decided to move from London to Leeds cos of my health and luck of help in London. I am applying for jobs but my job applications are rejected beceause my home address is in London. Any advice what to do? I desperately want to move to Leeds. Haven't got anyone is there to use their address

Are you sure it is your address? My daughter got a job in London, despite having a north west address because she made it clear that she was willing and able to move (and was prepared to move into temporary accommodation/cheap hotel) in order to move quickly).

Most of them saying your CV is amazing but you are not local to Leeds

What sort of notice period are you on and what is your housing situation? Can you make it clear that you will move to Leeds asap? Are you working in London?

malynka235 · 22/10/2024 14:00

No one even asking me that, if I get a job in Leeds I would move straight away. I live and work in London but I don't have council house to swap with someone

What sort of work have you been applying for?

SallyWD · 22/10/2024 14:16

I find this odd. My husband and I both got jobs in Leeds when we lived down south. We didn't have a Leeds address but they knew we were moving up here.

WYorkshireRose · 22/10/2024 14:16

Include a covering letter/line in your CV or application which explains that you'll be relocating to Leeds subject to successful application.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 22/10/2024 14:21

How many applications are asking for home address?! I live in Herts but used to commute to London, when I applied for London-based roles and it asked me for location I just put 'London' and expanded in interview if asked. Can you do this?

malynka235 · 22/10/2024 14:23

Yes I was surprised by that, I thought I will get all the jobs I applied just like that and be living in Leeds by now. Thanks for advice I will attach the covering letter with explanation :)

I even removed my address from Cv, unfortunately most of them are forcing you to put address on online applications and if you don't add one the application is not going through

Absolutely this. But be prepared that if you say this they will expect you to be available very quickly. If you have a month notice period they will expect you to be able to start work in a month.

My daughter's job was for somewhere that was opening and there was a non negotiable 2 week training period where they wold train all new staff. She had I think 2 weeks to sort somewhere to live.

malynka235 · 22/10/2024 14:29

Well I don't need notice I will just change my contract to 0 hours and find a room in Leeds asap. I am constantly trying with new applications

I would make it absolutely clear that you are about to relocate to Leeds and can move with very short notice then. What kind of work are you looking for? (incidentally my husband finds it cheaper to stay in Bradford and commute into Leeds)

malynka235 · 22/10/2024 14:41

I am security and have SIA license but I find there is no many security jobs in Leeds so I am applying for any customer service jobs or museum as I am working in museum.

How can they say this yet also not ask about how quickly you can move?

As for security jobs, showsec are the main company around here that supply security for the Arena and Football events.

HermioneWeasley · 22/10/2024 14:45

There are loads of pubs and clubs in Leeds. A friend of mine who was SIA was offered more work than she wanted, especially as a woman. I think you need to try and talk to some humans instead of applying online

malynka235 · 22/10/2024 14:49

Thank you for the advice, hope I will sort that job eventually :)

Global ASM supply Arena staff but they don't have anything at the moment.
