Agency work and being dismissed from a previous role

I need some advice. My previous role was through an agency and one day my mental health was really poorly (I have been struggling with depression my entire life) and I did not show up to work or let them know. The agency e-mailed me that my contract has been terminated.

I now feel better and up for getting another job, so I registered with another agency and they asked me if I have ever been dismissed. I panicked and said no. It now hit me that they might ask my previous agency whether I have been dismissed when they contact them for reference.

Will I get in trouble for lying? And should I be honest next time? Please help, I have little experience with these things

Don't panic. Even if your agency approach the other agency for a reference (very unlikely), all they will do is confirm the dates you worked for them, not why you finished.

Also, a temporary contract being terminated is not really a dismissal, in the sense that if you were an employee it suggests a long term issue, failing at a pip, going through a dismissal process, but as a contractor on short notice contracts are terminated early all the time for random reasons, many of which are nothing to do with your performance.

So don't worry, and you know that what you did in a previous job is not what you'd do again. Good luck finding a new role.
