Hey all, I am hoping to tap into the MN collective to see if anyone has been in a similar situation or could give me some pointers please?
I have been in IT for about 20 years, the last 4 in a managerial role. Whilst it's always paid the bills and I get a great salary in my current role, I feel like it's time for a change.
I've worked in a variety of corporates and it's always the same story, too much work not enough staff. I manage a lovely team. But frankly the workload is ridiculous as it's being ever increasing, I'm fed up of the ever growing escalations and complaints and despite flagging this to upper management, nothing changes.
There is an ever increasing expectation to work extra hours, be contactable for escalations and work weekends at short notice.
A couple of things in my personal life have led to me putting in more boundaries recently and it's not going down particularly well so far with the company.
The job market it isn't great, I could afford to take a reasonable pay cut in the next year or so as I will have paid off my mortgage, but not a big enough to completely retrain and start from the bottom.
I'd love to work with someone to figure out my transferable skills and have some possible options floated to me, not sure if a career coach or someone in recruitment could help with that, I'd be happy to pay for the service if it yielded some fruit. Has anyone been down this road or similar and can share some pearls of wisdom please?
