Hi, has anyone worked as an apprenticeship assessor? Looking for insight into the role. My subject is health and social care. I realise I will need to do the CAVA course. Many thanks.

Hi OP, yes I have although I am now back in the industry practice I was assessing. (Dental). Yes, you will need to do CAVA, I did the TAQA and had two learners to assess who were attached to the college while I did that. That was alongside my job at the time, so you will need to set time aside for that. Once you are qualified it’s mainly going to workplaces and assessing, and then writing reports which can be lengthy but not uninteresting if you enjoy your subject. The positives are, flexible work, I loved going in and out of practices and meeting people. The negatives are, getting some learners to comply and chasing workplaces to book observations can be a drag. But all in all, I enjoyed it! It really worked for me while the DC were small. In fact I’m thinking of going back to it. Feel free to ask any questions and good luck.
