Car leasing scheme/ salary sacrifice

So i work full time for a local council on low income who just started a salary sacrifice scheme for leasing a car

I also work part time for an insurance company not part of the car scheme /car salary scheme

Council does not know i work for insurance company & insurance company does not know I work for council.

Combined income is over £3k monthly

I want to get a good decent big car (size wise) on the salary sacrifice for my family( especially since our family car got written off yesterday) but my income from council is not allowing me to get a big size car only a car the size of a very small fiat that is not big enough for 4 of us.

I am wondering if the car leasing company will allow me get the big car if I show them evidence of my 2nd earning with the insurance company that is not part of the scheme.

Or I declare 2nd job to council so that I can use joint income for both jobs for the car salary sacrifice scheme

Do you think this is possible?
Will council HR allow the use of joint income?

I would be very careful and check your contracts/policies. Do both jobs allow you to have second jobs, especially in those industries? It's possible you'll end up with no job so be careful how you go about it!

I don't have experience with car finance specifically, but a previous workplace used to offer loans through salary sacrifice and they didn't take other sources of income into the equation.

Ok thanks.
I have thought about it disclosing 2nd job might not be an option because I don't wanna loose the job(s)

It might be because the sacrifice for a large car would take it under minimum wage which is against the law. Declaring a second income would make no difference on a work scheme.
However you should declare as it might be against your contract and to avoid a huge tax bill with having a second job.

@Eggbuttie
Yes it is not allowing the big car as it means take home pay is less than minimum 🤷🏽‍♀️

You can't salary sacrifice under minimum wage, the council has to pay you min wage for the hours you work. The additional income isn't relevant, it's not an affordability issue.

Agree with this. The two incomes can't be combined, both need to be paying you at least NLW.

Thanks all

I though so as well that I won't be possible to combine and I am not going to tell any of them I have a 2nd job

I will look into getting car finance for a car outside the scheme.

I can afford a car of £900 monthly on combined income so I will try that and see.

Thanks

You are contractually obliged to declare working for another employer especially local authority.
This could lead to disciplinary if not.
Please check your terms of contract.
