Asked to submit a video with job application

Is this a thing nowadays? Just emailed a cover letter and CV for a job and immediately got a response asking me to send a short video of my skills and experience! Have never come across this in my life and a quick google tells me that it could be to root out time wasters but lots of people horrified at the notion and saying that it could be discriminatory. Doing the CV and prepping for an interview is bad enough!!

BTW, this is for a part time job, remote working job, not some super well paid thing.

It's all a bit OTT and bonkers imo.

I'd email them back saying as everything is about equality and everything else these days, you are now obviously expecting a video of the interview team (individual videos of course) explaining how and why they're in a position to undertake recruitment for the role you are applying for.
Within 2 working days natch.

Then you may consider whether or not to proceed with your enquiry.

I'm going to reply and say thanks but no thanks! And explain that I'm not comfortable asking my references to set up accounts and give audio references. Weirdos.
