What else can I do?

I’m a social worker, in my early 50’s and have been qualified for over 20 years.

I’ve recently had 4 months off work due to a non work related issue. Mental health issue and my brain definitely isn’t what it was.

I’m in my last week of phased return from tomorrow.

I feel like I’m at the end of my career, work for a local authority.

I’ve been looking at non local authority social work jobs, but at the end of the day an assessment is an assessment. Families are families in need.

Feel like I’m ready for a total change but don’t know where to start. It’s difficult finding something within 5k of my salary (£37000)

Had anyone been in a similar position?

Can I ask, without intending to offend, 20 years qualified - how come you're only on 37K? I'm considering Social Work, but would like to think there is scope for decent progression. Hope you figured things out for your situation.

@IDidTheButcher I didn’t realise I’d stated £37000! My salary is £41000.
There is scope for progression, I have chosen to stay in a front line role but am a practice educator as I love mentoring.

I’m not a manager, and don’t wish to be! I have had senior social work roles but came back to front line a few years ago with current local authority.

It’s great to hear you are considering social work. What area would you want to work in?

How about something like a family support worker type role for a Charity or similar or Safeguarding etc in a school. The salary will be quite a bit lower though I should imagine.
