New part time job options monday tuesday or thursday friday

Hi All Hope your all ok!

I currently work as a dental nurse part time 16 hours per week Monday and Friday - my workplace is toxic and my big bosses are vile - very unsupportive! I applied for a medical administer position in a high school, 12 hours per week term time only plus inset days with the option of working Mondays and Tuesdays OR Thursdays and Fridays - which would you choose and why? Unsure which option to request. I have an interview Tuesday next week!

Sorry for any typos typing quickly as my youngest is hungry!
I have 2 disabled children hence why i only work part time to accommodate them and I am a single parent with little to 0 support.

Thanks all

Definitely have Thursday/Friday off. You have a lovely long weekend.

Skykidsspy · 27/09/2024 16:55

monday/tues working to benefit from bank holidays - usually works best in schools.

PuppyMonkey · 27/09/2024 16:57

Thursday/Friday so you get more bank hols in lieu - plus they’re nicer days to work imho.

LastTuesdayinMarch · 27/09/2024 16:57

Work Mon & Tues.

FacingTheWall · 27/09/2024 17:13

I’ve recently switched my day off from a Friday to a Monday and it’s so much better! I no longer get the Sunday evening dread, and I still get the Friday feeling. You’ll still have a long weekend either way.

Greenerblue · 27/09/2024 17:16

I’d probably work Thursday & Friday to avoid that Sunday night dread, and eveyone is in better mood on Thursdays and Fridays!
Although Monday Tuesday is a good option too as then you get it out the way. Difficult one!

isitme111 · 27/09/2024 19:24

Thur/Fri to avoid the Monday morning blues.

anotherdayinhell · 27/09/2024 19:31

So many good reasons for both options! I initially thought Monday Tuesday so it's done and dusted but then it would be nice to have a break after the weekend with the kids and work thur Friday. Sunday night dread is real though....I feel you all on that!!

Thurs/Fri for sure. You should get pro rats additional leave to make up for the bank holidays.

Greyyyybeornot · 27/09/2024 19:33

I would definitely choose to work Monday / Tuesday!

I find that social stuff tends to happen mid week evenings (Wednesday / Thursday) for me anyway.

Plus you’ll get all those bank holidays off and presumably paid?!

TroysMammy · 27/09/2024 19:34

I work Thursday and Friday and find the craziness on Monday and Tuesday has levelled out by the end of the week. It feels much calmer.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 27/09/2024 19:42

Depending on the contracted hours you may have to work other days to cover the "lost" hours on a Monday bank holiday. (I previously worked in a school including Mondays & had to make up the hours).
I would therefore choose Thursday & Friday.

StrongAutumn · 27/09/2024 19:43

Definitely work Monday and Tuesday and get it over and done with.

qualifiedazure · 27/09/2024 19:44

If you work Mondays and Tuesdays then most of your holiday allowance will be taken up by bank holidays.

redtrain123 · 27/09/2024 19:46

Check holiday entitlement for working Mondays. I work Mondays, and have to use holiday up for bank holidays (this is legal), so I don’t actually get much holiday to use when I want. Works out I ‘loose’ a weeks worth of holiday days.

Ineffable23 · 27/09/2024 19:49

It sounds like it's term time only.

If it's term time only you will work fewer days if you work Monday Tuesday.

More bank holidays in lieu only works for giving you flexibility if your holidays aren't determined for you.

Bruisername · 27/09/2024 19:50

Agree that you need to check the holiday point.

i don’t work Mondays or Fridays and I love my Monday off! I get to regroup and have more time for me! When I had Thursday and Friday off I felt I spent my time cleaning up and prepping for the weekend

This isn't how this works.

This isn't how this works.

Where I work I am given a pro rate of BH for the year and then have to use holiday on BH

so if I had pro rata 4 days and 20 days holiday for eg and 5 BH fell on work days then I would only have 19 days that I can choose when to take

if 2 BH fall in my work day I can then choose 22 days

kiwiane · 27/09/2024 20:27

Thursday / Friday or you will have much more limited choice of annual leave as it will have to be used to cover all your Monday bank holidays.

Ineffable23 · 27/09/2024 21:05

kiwiane · 27/09/2024 20:27

Thursday / Friday or you will have much more limited choice of annual leave as it will have to be used to cover all your Monday bank holidays.

But this doesn't apply if you are a term time only worker whose holidays are in the school holidays - because you already have no choice of when to take your annual leave.

HidingFromDD · 27/09/2024 21:06

How many bank holidays are actually in term time though? Also, are you children in school - Monday mornings were always more of a rush getting kids ready and off so you may be better working Thursday Friday

qualifiedazure · 27/09/2024 21:17

VictoryOrDeath · 27/09/2024 20:18

This isn't how this works.

I didn't notice it was term time only, but if it wasn't and you work 2 days a week and get 11.2 days holiday, 4 of those days are bank holiday Mondays so you don't get to choose them.

eeeeeeeee · 27/09/2024 21:20

I’d rather have Thursday/Friday off as it suits my lifestyle more but you might feel differently. Think of regular appointments or activities you may have on those days perhaps
